It’s Movie Time!

Today’s episode “It’s Movie Time” is on  iTunes/Apple PodcastsSpotifyOvercastLibsynPocket CastStitcher or anywhere you listen to podcasts.

Today we join Paul Wilborn and Doug Clair of the Having Beers With podcast to raise our coffee mugs (and their beer cans) in salute to movies! We have a rousing discussion about some of our all time favorite movies, including those guilty pleasure films we almost don’t want to admit to out loud. You might be surprised at what ours are…and maybe even discover you’re not alone in yours.

Doug stumps us (Ok. Kris. Doug stumps Kris.) as we do a round-robin guess-the-movie-candy game. Apparently when Kris’ brain thinks, “Snickers”, or “Butterfingers,” or “Reeses Pieces,” her mouth spits out Jordan Almonds. Not literally, but you know what we mean. Kris would just like to say in her defense, it’s her mom’s favorite candy and Kris crumbles under pressure. We’re pretty sure Kym won the game, but Kris did guess the number one candy (of course, Paul helped by providing a great clue…ahem). No we’re not telling here. That’s what the podcast is for. Go. Go listen NOW. Shooo. Go on…

You’re still here?

Ok, well, thanks for sticking with the blog. Anyhoo, we go on to to talk about the top money-making movies of all time, many of which have made billions of dollars. BILLIONS with a B. NINE. ZEROES. Kris and Kym would like to say, “DAYUM, we are in the wrong business!” Sadly, some of our favorite blockbusters (Jaws, E.T., etc.) were blown out of the water by today’s newfangled upstarts, but Kris’ nerd heart is stilled with the inclusion of two films from her all time favorite franchises, Harry Potter and Star Wars. #nerdsunite.

Of course, what would a podcast episode with the Mugly Truth be – whether it’s ours or one we’re guesting on – without a major detour? So we veer off the Cinema Interstate and take the Bathroom Etiquette offramp. Yes, dear friends, we do Potty Talk on this episode. But fear not, it’s alllll relatable with no discussion about gross stuff. And there’s just one air-biscuit reference. 20 Listener Gold Stars if you know the movie reference without Google, and can answer before Kym.

Grave Concerns

Happy All Hallow’s Eve Eve!!! Today marks our last episode of October 2018, extolling eerie, spooky, Halloweeny greatness. We help you ring in a spectacular Halloween with this simply lovely episode discussing cemeteries from all over the world with our good friend Paul Wilborn from the “Having Beers With” podcast.  We chat about our personal visits to the local Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, Paul’s brush with Scottish ghosts (maybe…it could have happened) at Greyfriar’s Kirkyard in Edinburgh which is supposed to be so very haunted, and how both Paul and Kris visited St. Cuthbert’s Graveyard (also in Edinburgh). Just not at the same time. They even took the same damned Ghost Bus Tour. Again, two years apart. It is very highly recommended by both by the way.

Anyway, Paul also has an affinity for New Orleans (because family) cemeteries (because wicked cool) and knows way more than anyone else we know about the history of why people are buried the way they are in NOLA. Kris even pinpoints her “taphophile” beginnings from visiting a cemetery in Weaverville, CA, when she was a kid.

We also find out an ancestor of Kym’s actually started a cemetery for war veterans somewhere back east. That’s our Kym, always at the ready with a zinger story! We discuss some places we’d like to visit and wonder why more people don’t plan vacations around visiting cemeteries. C’mon. Why not? Kris ends the episode with some incredibly amazing (Oh…YES…INCREDIBLY AMAZING WE SAY!!!!…erm) facts about cemeteries. Ahem.

This blog is going to be devoted more to photos rather than a write up, so go ahead, plug into the podcast and you can follow along here to see what we’re talking about! To listen, go to  iTunes/Apple Podcasts, SpotifyOvercast, Libsyn, Pocket CastsStitcher or anywhere you listen to podcasts. Then all you need to do is 1) subscribe 2) download and 3) listen! Episode 01: Ctrl+Alt+WTF?

Welcome to Episode 01 of The Mugly Truth Podcast! This week we fuel up on coffee and technology. From the 70’s to present day, we reminisce about troubleshooting rogue cassettes, the right way to return a mixtape, disco, OG texting (aka passing notes), rabbit ear antennas, recording movies in the seventies, changing channels the old fashioned way, landlines and the real MTV. Jumping back to the future we cover all things social media (YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat (STREAKS!), moms using cellphones, teenagers, Netflix, viral videos (Chewbacca Lady! I Don’t Watch The News Because I’m A Kid Kid!), tech spies conspiracy theories, self-driving cars (NOPE), Uber Air (NOPE NOPE), the kind of people who jump in elevators, podcasting, and even the Chunnel makes a guest appearance (one ginormous NOPE from Kym, two non-sarcastic thumbs up from Kris) . It’s literally gonna make you go HmmmmCtrl+Alt+WTF?

Special thanks to Paul Wilborn who helped us test our equipment, and even had us on HIS podcast (see Episode 21 The Mugly Truth on his podcast page at http://www.havingbeerswith.com/ ). If you like beer, hockey, baseball, or The American Wake, check out Paul’s podcast Having Beers With!

So grab your coffee and get comfy in your chair. Put on your headphones; kick the kids out of the room; turn down the volume on your work computer or turn it up in your car – because the swear jar goes into overdrive (we made over $2 in our swear-funding for equipment upgrades).
